BTCCSquare news:

Google has clarified that non-custodial cryptocurrency wallets will not be subject to its upcoming Play Store policy changes for digital asset apps. The tech giant initially sparked concerns among Android users by announcing stricter licensing requirements for custodial wallet providers, including exchanges.

Starting October 29, custodial wallet apps must obtain jurisdiction-specific licenses—such as MiCA authorization in the EU, FCA registration in the UK, and FinCEN approval in the US. France and Germany will receive transitional arrangements. The policy shift reflects growing regulatory scrutiny of crypto services across major markets.

The exemption for self-custody solutions preserves access to decentralized finance tools on Android devices. "Non-custodial wallets are out of scope," Google's Help Center now explicitly states, following backlash from the crypto community. The company plans to update its documentation to reflect this distinction.
